The profession of occupational therapy demands personal interaction with people on a day-to-day basis. You face situations daily where you are open to the possibility of lawsuits and significant defense costs. Your clients could hold you responsible for damages they have received, resulting from a negligent act, error, omission or malpractice arising out of your professional capacity as an occupational therapist.
As a member of CAOT, you are eligible to obtain $5,000,000 Professional Liability insurance at a cost that has been significantly decreased for all members. While this particular coverage is imperative to protect the risk exposure of your practice, we also understand that your individual needs may vary, and accordingly have provided you with different coverage options allowing you to select what best suits your needs.
This policy is on a “claims made” policy form. This means that you must report a claim when you are first made aware of a claim or a potential claim and the claim must be reported within the policy period. Coverage is extended to include all incidents that have already occurred but you are unaware of. Please call Aon at 1-800-267-6262 to report a claim or should you have any further questions.

Definitions
Legal Expense Reimbursement: provides reimbursement of legal expenses in preparing for the disciplinary/investigative proceedings.
Criminal Reimbursement: provides reimbursement for legal expenses incurred if you are brought into a suit for a criminal offense and were found not guilty.
