Am I eligible for the CASW Professional Liability Insurance Program?
The only requirement to join is that you must be able provide proof of membership with one of the following CASW member organizations in order to apply and to report a claim:

- Alberta College of Social Workers
- BC Association of Social Workers
- Manitoba Association of Social Workers
- Ontario Association of Social Workers
- New Brunswick Association of Social Workers
- Newfoundland & Labrador Association of Social Workers
- Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers
- Prince Edward Island Association of Social Workers
- Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers
- The Association of Social Workers of Northern Canada
- Affiliate member of CASW

What is professional liability insurance?
Professional Liability Insurance covers the investigation and defence against any civil action (subject to policy terms, conditions and exclusions ) brought against you including payment of all sums which you may be legally obligated to pay as a result of liability for personal injuries arising out of rendering or failure to render professional services as a social worker.

What is the difference between Professional Liability insurance and Commercial General Liability Insurance?
While the Professional Liability covers you for the rendering or failure to render professional services, Commercial General Liability is extended to cover claims for bodily injury, personal injury and property damage that may be caused to your client (or other third party) arising out of your premises or business operations). For example, the liability for clients falling and being injured on your premises.

I am a student. Can I get coverage through the CASW Liability Insurance Program?
Students are not eligible for coverage however, any insured member can add students acting on their behalf and only while under the insured member’s supervision for $25 per student.

When are new applications posted on-line?
Updated applications are posted within 30days prior to your policy’s expiration date.

I have joined the program for the first time. Why is my coverage not for a full 12 months?
The CASW Liability insurance Program has two renewal dates for all members. Members joining between May 1st and October 30th renew on May 1st and members joining between October 31st and May 30th renew on October 31st.

I need to report a claim, who do I contact?
Please contact Aon immediately at 800-267-6262 and speak with our claims department. When reporting a claim you must submit proof of membership in good standing with one of the CASW member organizations listed above in order for Aon to report the incident to the insurer.
